Build Strong English Foundations
Oxford Discover Level 1 is a structured English course for young learners who are beginning to build stronger communication, reading, vocabulary, listening, and language skills.
Students learn through meaningful questions, real-world topics, guided reading, vocabulary, speaking, grammar, and classroom discussion.
The course also encourages critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity through age-appropriate activities. ESL Connexus currently uses Oxford Discover Level 1 materials for Beginner/A1 learning and related reading, vocabulary, speaking, and writing work. ESL Connexus

This course is designed for young learners at approximately Beginner / A1 English level.
It is appropriate for students who:
- Need a clear, structured English-learning pathway
- Are developing basic speaking and listening skills

- Are ready to learn with other students at a similar English level

How the Complete Course Works
ESL Connexus teaches Oxford Discover Level 1 as a 48-class complete curriculum course.
The full level is divided into two terms.
Term 1
24 live 50-minute classes
This event is for Term 1.
Term 2
24 live 50-minute classes
Students enroll in Term 2 separately.
Together, Term 1 and Term 2 make up the complete 48-class Oxford Discover Level 1 course.
This structure gives families a clear midpoint and avoids requiring payment for all 48 classes at once.
Live Small-Group Learning
ESL Connexus groups are intentionally kept small.
Minimum to open: 3 paid students
Maximum: 7 students
Small groups give students opportunities to:
- Speak with classmates
- Practise new language
- Ask and answer questions
- Participate in teacher-led activities
- Receive individual feedback
- Learn from other students

Minimum Enrollment Policy
ESL Connexus live group classes require at least 3 paid students to open.
If fewer than 3 students complete payment by the payment deadline, the group will not begin as scheduled.
Families who have already paid may choose one of the following:
- Receive a full refund to the original payment method
- Transfer the payment to another available ESL Connexus group course
- Keep the payment as ESL Connexus account credit for a future live-learning purchase
- Remain on the waiting list for a later start date, if the family agrees
ESL Connexus will not begin the course with fewer than 3 paid students at the published group price.
If a different learning option is available, such as private or semi-private instruction, it will be offered separately with its own confirmed price and only with the family's approval.

Placement Before Paid Study
New students complete the ESL Connexus placement assessment before beginning paid study.
The assessment helps confirm that the student is joining an appropriate English level and course.
True beginners may be exempt when Teacher Josh confirms that the assessment is unnecessary.
Students may register for the group first and complete placement while the group is forming.
